WE CARE

Supporting the IYUHA ACU Youth Center, McLaughlin, SD

In May 2022, we visited the Iyuha Acu Youth Center on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in McLaughlin, SD. Hoksila and Memorie White Mountain welcomed us warmly and explained to us the importance for kids to have a safe place to go to after school, where they learn about their culture and their language, do projects together or just help with cooking. Iyuha Acu Youth Services is the only culturally centered non-profit youth organization concentrating on young adults ages 13-24 who live on the reservation.
Since our visit three years ago, we continue to give large financial donations yearly and we have donated a tipi as a community space that is used for gatherings or a changing room for their sweat lodge that the kids built in the backyard.
Last year, we engaged the kids in a project where we asked them to create a brochure that talks about the significance of the tipi to their culture. This brochure is now part of the literature that we send out with each tipi cover purchase.
To learn more about the Iyuha Acu Youth Center and how you can contribute, please visit their website www.lakotayouthcenter.org and watch the video on the homepage. All donations are tax deductible and go directly to helping the young Native people on the Standing Rock reservation.

ART DEPARTMENT

Painting Your Pets

We often get requests to paint a very specific pet as part of the tipi design. Once we receive the photo, we discuss how detailed and exact the replica should be. The more detailed, the higher the budget, but if the cost is too high, we can also capture the essence of your pet by choosing form and color and a specific expression. Once we receive your photo, we’ll ask about the details, such as if the stripes of the Zebra should match exactly. We can compose one painting from 4 different pictures of highland cows, pay homage to your four legged companion or make slight changes if a cowboy hat and a shirt looks more stylish than a baseball cap with a T-shirt as you ride on your horse . Send us your favorite pet photo and we can certainly incorporate it into your tipi cover, door or liner design.
