COMPANY NEWS

Memorial Day Tipi Setup Party

It is beginning of April, finally the daffodils are showing, and May 26th seems to be a long way off. But if you – together with many, many of your fellow teepee enthusiasts – plan on setting up your new tipi or your new replacement cover during Memorial Day weekend, you need to get organized!
Hopefully, you have already called us and placed your order, your tipi cover is in line for production and delivery is scheduled. (If not, call us right away and we can still try to squeeze you in). Ideally, you are getting your new poles beginning of May, so you have time to sand and oil them, as recommended on our website.
Next, you want to spend some time on your ground preparation. Building a deck will take some time and lumber is still quite expensive. Therefore, you might opt to put your tipi on the ground during the first year.
Level the ground and fill a circle ( 2ft larger than the size of your tipi ) with ¾ minus driveway gravel. With this preparation, you can place our ground cover as moisture barrier on the gravel, then add wall-to-wall carpeting on top of that. If you plan on a fire place, it is easy to cut out your hole and place some stones or fire bricks around it.
Then, stack your furniture, mattresses, pillows and chairs in the middle of the tipi before you raise the lift pole and install the tipi cover. Your tipi will come with a detailed set up instruction booklet, but we recommend that you watch our set up video before the big day.

ART DEPARTMENT

Tipis With A Voice

Our artist Dale Rae Samples designed and painted this tipi for The Kahneeta Resort on the Warm Springs Reservation in Oregon. This tipi is a decorative tipi that stands to draw attention to a very serious and important issue to the Native People.
Dale states: “This tipi design stands for all the missing sisters whose voices are not heard. The red handprint is a symbol of solidarity to raise awareness and draw attention to the high rates of disappearances and murders of native people, particularly women and girls.” The red handprint, often placed over the mouth, is a powerful symbol representing the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) movement.
Dale grew up in East Glacier, Montana, on the Blackfeet Reservation and has been painting tipis at Nomadics since 2021. National Day of Awareness for MMIW & relatives is May 5th.

WE CARE

Supporting NAYO On The Pine Ridge Reservation, SD

NAYO, the Native American Youth Organization on the Pine Ridge Reservation, SD, is organized by the young people from the Sacred Defense Fund. NAYO brings cultural pride and purpose to Native youth and engages them in environmental, social and political aspects that are relevant to their community. Nomadics encourages Native young people to get engaged and speak their truth about the topics that are important to them.
As a sign of our support, we are donating all the profits from the sale of our tipi photo calendar, which as of March 2025 is $671, with 49 calendars sold. We still have a few calendars left if you still would like one.
